Nifedipine is mainly used in treating high blood pressure and
controlling chest pain.Nifedipine available in the market under the
brand name Adalat and Procardia is solely manufactured by
Nicardia.Though the drug nifedipine has other brands too, but
Nicardia is the unique manufacturer.
This drug is available in the strength of 10mg MR tablets having
quantity as 30 (3*10) and price $26.40,20mg MR tablets having
quantity as same with price $29.92 and 30mg CD tablets available at
$35.20.
The Adalat 10mg tablets is orange in colour while the capsules of
10mg Adalat are soft gelatin kind.Adalat 20mg tablets are orange and
light brown in colour while the capsules are same as Adalat 10mg.The
Procardia 10mg and 20mg tablets/capsules also look the same as
Adalat brand. The Nifedipine Extended release tablets are available
as 30mg, 60mg and 90mg packing. They come as round, biconvex and
rose pink in colour and in form of film coated tablets. Nifedipine
at present is available in three different variants: one form of the
drug is in the form of oral pill or tablets.
The second form is the capsules and the third form is in the form of
liquid syrup.According to tests and researches made it has been
recorded that this drug is taken less by people suffering from heart
or blood pressure problems as compared to control the chest pain. It
has also been noted that calcium channel blockers are better as
second or third line treatment for angina where beta blockers or the
nitrate blockers can be given as the first line treatment. The
generic version of this drug is also out in the market now named as
Nifedipine XL.
