Nifedipine is an effective drug mainly taken to control high blood
pressure and in chest pain. With its advantages there are some side
effects of this drug. Side effect does not mean that they are sure
to take place. Side effect means that there are chances of such
happenings if in case the drug doesn’t suit anyone or not taken as
prescribed by the physician or any other carelessness regarding the
drug.
Some adverse conditions found if the drug is taken in fewer amounts
than 3%-4% of daily dose of 90mg are leg pain, paresthesia,
vertigo.Dermatological problem like the rashes, gastrointestinal
problem like the constipation, cramps in the leg, and respiratory
troubles like epistaxis or rhinitis. Some very serious side effects
of this drug are the one relating to urogenital problems like
urinary frequency and impotence in men.
Some common effects of the drugs which are not very serious are the
feeling of dizziness, laziness, nausea, constipation, headache,
fatigue, flushing or heat sensation and asthenia. Some patients also
suffer from problems like cramps in the muscles, lightheadedness,
blurred vision, sweating and difficulty in sleeping also called as
insomnia.
Certain side effects should not be let off so easily and should be
treated under the doctor’s supervision. These types of side effects
include slow or fast heart beats, skin rashes, difficulty in
breathing, passage of blood in the urine, pain in the chest or
reduced amount of passage of urine. Sudden weight loss can also be a
serious issue. The Musculoskeletal problems like arthralgia,
arthritis, myagia are faced. Special sensatory problems like
amblyopia, conjunctivitis and tinnitus have been also observed in
some patients.
